Talking to Kids about Politics

I went to the library recently and found this article in USA Today. As I have an interest in politics and communication I decided to write this blog post.

It starts with the idea that “Political leaders bullying makes our kids less kind.”  It continues with “when the most powerful person in the country uses bullying – and when cruelty becomes political currency – it trickles down. And now, these messages are showing up in our schools.”

It continues with suggestions that educators and parents can use to solve the problem, but I have a better idea.

First of all, we are underestimating the problem. The way that we use language dehumanizes people. And when you dehumanize somebody can do almost anything to them that you want.

Let me introduce myself, my name is Louis H. Kraus, MSSA and I am the founder of Better Outcomes Inc. At Better Outcomes we have a more comprehensive approach to all the problems above.

  1. First, we use Old Testament Commandments to teach people how to speak more nicely.
  2. Second, we recommend the use of Nonviolent Communication, created by Marshall Rosenberg, PhD. Marshall’s system puts feelings back into our conversations permits us to connect the weight human beings are supposed to.
  3. Third, we use what we call Candidate Conversations. These Candidate Conversations permit us to elect better people to public office.
  4. Fourth, We have just instituted a program for Law Enforcement. This program permits law enforcement people to de-escalate the violence that they have to use when doing their job. We will use Marshall’s Nonviolent Communication to help law enforcement people in this program.
