The way we use language, particularly finger-pointing and name-calling, is very dangerous. Even though we may not think much of it truth is that name-calling dehumanizes people. This may seem like no big deal, but in fact it is a very, very big deal!
By dehumanizing people we make it possible to can do anything we want to people. This means that all kinds of violence is justified because we are no longer dealing with a person, we have taken their humanity from them.
Just think about the increasing violence lately. We make the assumption that it just happens. In truth, the language that we use without thinking that makes this violence happen!
Next time you decide to call somebody a name, even in jest, think twice. You can decrease just that little bit of violence make someone’s day much better
